A couple weeks back, we covered the all new Leatt goggles which boasted the incredible technology of a “bullet-proof lens”- not only have they spent a lot of time in their research and development in their new technology, but also their “old” technology. This is evident in their range of the Leatt neckbrace, mainly the 6.5 and 5.5 which has improved on the already impressive technology.
The biggest thing to remember when choosing a neck-brace to use when
riding is fitment. This is important because it will ensure that you
get the most safety possible as well as stability when riding.
The main difference between the 5.5 and 6.5 is the frame and construction. With the 5.5, you have a fibre glass chasis opposed to the carbon fibre of the 6.5 The inclusion of the “Sure Fit Adjusters” – this is the tab in the front and the rear of the brace. In the rear of the brace, there is six adjustment points where you can slide it back to make sure it has the best fit possible. The same goes for the front of the brace.
At the rear part of the brace, there is a black rubber piece – this is an “Angle Adjuster”. 4 of these rubbers are included with the brace. This is fully removable.
The Angle Adjusters come in: 0 degrees, 5 degrees, 10 degrees, 15 degrees. This adjusts the angle at which the brace closes.
A common misconception is that neckbraces in general, regardless of brand,
take away the riders ability to look around you and this might be true
whilst you are standing around but when you are in the riding position
and on the bike – this is not the case.
With all these great features, we best not forget that Leatt also do a 3.5 neckbrace which doesn’t have as many adjustable parts but is still great quality protection. A great feature that is overlooked is the collarbone cut-outs which are there to protect the riders collarbones.
What many people often forget with a company like Leatt, is that they were the first company to offer a ‘brace’ for the neck and had many doctors do various tests to make sure it was of the highest standard. Leatt has become a leading brand in protection, and continue to strive forward with their innovation with everything in such a dangerous sport.
